Got fuel dripping into the carburetor. I pulled off the carb cover and there is a constant drip coming through the fuel line. Happens for "on" or "res". Drops off when I turn the fuel selector to off. I have another one just like it. The primer bulb is always tight on it. This one always seems to be empty when I come to it. Have to pump it up to get the fuel there. It was flooded today. Now I see why. Any thoughts on what is going on here?

Re: 1990 Kawasaki TS 650 Fuel Drip
Pulled apart this weird carburetor - just stuck wide open. No needle or seat or spring anything in this. Very odd. Cleaned it up, worked better, but just wide open all the time. Going to see if I can get a kit to rebuild this.

Re: 1990 Kawasaki TS 650 Fuel Drip
All watercraft carbs are basically the same. Except The early
TS has a remote fuel pump, and a squeeze bulb primer.

There isn't a reliable replacement for the needle and seat.
Use the stock needle and seat.
It is typical for Kawasaki Keihin carbs to be hard starting,
but like any other watercraft, it can be repaired.Last edited by wmazz; 08-17-2022, 02:51 AM.

Re: 1990 Kawasaki TS 650 Fuel Drip
Still not right. Have another ts-650, swapped the carbs and this carb works fine on the other ski. One thing I notice that is different between the two: on the working ski, the primer bulb is tight, full of fuel all the time. On the problem ski the primer bulb always feels empty, or slushy. Any thoughts?

check valve inside the primer.
The primer is constructed with the same check valves as a
fuel pump. 1st check valve prevents fuel in the bulb from
leaking back into the fuel tank (like lifting a column of cola
upwards with a straw when you seal the top with your finger).
2nd check valve creates fuel pressure between the primer and
needle and seat. Until the seat opens.

Re: 1990 Kawasaki TS 650 Fuel Drip
I swapped out the primer bulb, the carb and the pump. All the parts went into the second ski and worked. All the working parts went into my problem ski and it still has no fuel flow. I have good fuel at the fuel pump inlet. Do I need to check the pulse? What else can I check?

Re: 1990 Kawasaki TS 650 Fuel Drip
You are saying there is no fuel to the carb? If so that is
just hard starting. Maybe the same thing as the Yamaha
triple.
Try the paper clip trick. It will determine if the fuel
pump is part of the problem or not.
Most likely not.
Bill M.
This is a test that Kawasaki provided that was not in
the service manual.
If it has been several days since you worked on it,
maybe crank the engine over for 15 to 30 seconds.Last edited by wmazz; 08-21-2022, 01:42 AM.
