    Re: 300sx build

that will be a neat little ski.

back in the early 90's i built one for a local customer. everyone said it couldnt be done.

i did like you, i made my own eng bed plate. we ran a 550 piston port motor, with a westcoast full pipe, shaved head, 44mm carb, and a 17p prop. that little thing flew, and i was amazed how well it handled. it really wasn't to hard of a conversion.

i wish i would have taken more pics. man it was so long ago......

i think it was like 92 or 93.

I pretty much had everything here to do it with so its not like it is costing anything to do this other than time.It will probably take me longer to get it painted than anything else.I don't like riding the same thing that everyone olse has obviously. On the engine mounts I am going to epoxy and bolt 3/4 aluminum pieces to the original mounts then drill and tap that for a set of 650 motor mounts.Once I have this set up if I want I can always get the conversion plate and install a 650 or 750 theres plenty of room in there.I pretty much plan on taking all winter to do this project, lots of body mods which requires lots of time.

Update the engine is in,it is a tight fit but actually not as tight as the 550 hull; that it came out of.The engine mount plate has been reversed and a hole drilled into it to clear a case bolt.Other than that no big suprises so far.I was kind of bummed that my Bad bones resonator wouldn't fit so I did the unthinkable and may have angered the jet ski gods in the process. We will probably have to make a blood sacrifice to make up for it.I cut the curved parts off of it and installed it inline where the stock battery box used to be.Battery location is still up in the air at this point. I will post pics tomorrow. If anyone is interested in the mounts I will be recording the dimensions and making patterns off the finished pieces.

Ok here are the pics.I still have to drill the holes and tap them for the engine mounts, mostly trying to get everything to fit into the hull right now and decide the placement of all the components. As you can see it pretty much fits like it was made for it.

The pjs pipe is mostly for top end power,I have a thunder to ride if I want to go fast,I am setting this up for freestyle and the stock pipe with the halfpipe has the best bottom end power of any 550 exhaust system. Now I have to make a road trip to round up my other 440 jet pump with the ultra rare Scattrak four blade impeller, killer bottom end pull with that four blade prop.
