    I'm running a special brew of gas this season. I've got a sweet hook up for avgas. So, I'm mixing 50 50. 93 Street gas with 100ll avgas. To make a consistent 96. This is group ks suggested brew. Waters down the ethanol, keeps a consistent octane so no deto, and the lead is a nice lubricant. We will see how it fairs this season. I haven't had any deto issues but the quality of street gas is bumming me out. I went from never touching my carbs a couple years ago, to constantly cleaning gum out of them, and I run stabil.

    On a side note I am running 260gtx race gas in three machines that sit a lot. My race trim 440, as it needs it, my wet jet, as I'm never taking that pain in the behind to get to carb out again and she's a novelty that will sit long periods this summer between use, and in my 350x three wheeler as she sits long periods as well.

    I live a mile from the track so it's easier to get gtx than heading north for ethanol free 93

    And the avgas is easy to aquire as well, so it's no real extra effort. The gtx is pricey hence used minimally. The avgas is a about 70 cents more than pump

    So it would cost 3.00 to run my 6 gallon tank for a couple hours ? That's a no brainer. Sunoco 93 is about 2.60 here right now.




    Edit : I'd run straight avigas at 3.30 a gallon ! Damn, I remember running sunoco 106 right outta the pump in my rod in high school.

    I run 50/50, also. 2.5 gallons 93 pump, 2.5 C12. You definitely notice it, with no jetting changes. I run 40:1, H1R.

    Well After a great weekend of riding I now have to add two skis to the wrenching list.

    1986 js550. Went to start her up and immediately started revving uncontrollably. Must be an air leak, I am praying its not the crank seals!
    1998 SXI Pro. Was coming back from a short rip down the bay and heard a huge backfire. Did a quick peak and everything seems ok, but the ski didnt sound right. So I will be digging into her later.

    Got to love this sport!

    Yikes. Well, maybe you'll get lucky and find the revving to be a lean condition from a mere dirty carb and the backfire to be a burst exhaust hose/coupler or exploded waterbox. Those would be the easy quesses on the short list


    I've run at least 20 gallons so far this season of 50/50 93 street gas and 100ll avgas. No issues and no jetting changes needed. Also no lead fouled plugs yet. Hoping the benefits of lead (lube for crank and walls) , low ethanol, and higher consistent 96 octone to protect from deto really pan out. I'm very satisfied so far

    And the smell...AWESOME

    Inspected the SXI Pro over the weekend. Checked all hoses and waterbox, everything was in one piece. Ski ran fine, no backfires.
    But i did notice with my dual carbs the settings were different on each carb. Is that common? i would imagine you would want them the same. Ski idles great and accelerates strong.

    ^^^ excessive fuel dumped into the cylinder, combined with erratic spark can cause a backfire.^^^^ Also check the woodruff key, aka timing.

    Inspect your waterbox and all exhaust hoses after a backfire.

    As far as race gas and pump gas mix, it's like Frank's Red Hot: I put that sh!t in everything!

    Gave the tow rig some love this weekend. 99 crew cab short bed original body style 350 v8.. Pretty rare truck being a short bed crew of this style. Was going for the look of a 2016 style front as the headlights on these older trucks are terrible. I think I pulled it off. All new : black grill. Red bow tie. Black housing lights. Looks pretty sweet
