You can't go wrong with either. I too narrowed it down to an R-12X or 15F and went with the Honda because there making good deals on left over 04 Hondas. Paid $5000.00 + my trade. Best deal I could get on the Kawi was $8000.00 and my trade. No brainer for me.

I would debate that the 15F is more aggressive than the R-12X and that a 15F
is faster. Stock they both run 61-62. With Macboost the R-12X will do 63-64.

Honda also has a left side reverse and I find its easier to do an oil change on than the 15f. The oil filter is on the side of the block, such a pain in the *** compared to the top.

Either one is fine but I prefer the honda because they have always been reliable for me!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in the market for a ski this winter and did four months of reasrch looked at all the top skis . I ended up with with a 04 kawai 15f . it awesome! very fast power though out the rpm range. no turbos or superchargers to blow up. just put gas in and go. I went from a 2 seat and was concerned about how heavy and big the kawai is but it is a great combo
of 2 seat wave jumper and yamaha cruiser. the 15f race inspired hull and the reliability is hard to beat.

We have a 15F and an F-12; my brother in law and our best friend both have R-12X's, and I've ridden them.

First, in many states, you cannot tow legally with a two seater. I'm a little puzzled as to why you'd be comparing the two, but whatever...If you don't intend to tow, that won't matter.

Second, our feeling was that if you wanted POWER, you were better off getting it via a naturally aspirated engine that had sufficient displacement to minimize the long-term stress. So the Kawi was automatically more attractive to us.

Third, I don't care much for the R-12 hull. If your purpose is wave-jumping, it's a good choice, since it likes to jump. This also means that it likes to jump. I find the porpoising annoying after awhile. If you're looking to do comfortable touring with a playful aspect, I think that the F-12X would be a better choice.

These reasons are why we went with the POWER of the Kawi 15F - which is an awesome musclecraft - and the F-12 - which is an awesome touring boat.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Kawasaki STX-15F or Honda R12X

Both are great boats. My number one, and number two choices.

I believe both are reliable, and over their short history, problems have been sporadic for both. A small group of Honda's had gas in their oil, which was blamed on inproper break-in. The Kawi's had a hose breaking under the engine. Different hose set up now.

I ride with a guy with an 02 turbo. He has changed the impellor, intake grate, and I believe added a MacBoost. This would amonut to $700 or so.

My 15 F is stock. I payed $8,600 last June. I'm at 50 hours and have changed oil, and had to replace the flimsy hood for a total of $120. beyond the purchase price. ( I drilled a wave, it was dubbed the "Slap Face Backwards Dismount").

    To Compare the two crafts:

The Honda is more playful. Close, but the Honda is a little better.

Kawi is a better jumper. Can jump all styles. Honda must tail land and is not a speed jumper.

Kawi is better in the chop. It's not close.

Honda is a wetter ride, and the foot wells are always full of water.

Kawi rides hotter, in that you can feel more heat coming of the engine, than you do on the Honda.

Honda is better in "no Wake" zones.

Both take a back seat for Crusing to the Yami's. That HO Cruiser is a great boat !

Kawi's included boarding step is a huge advantage for reboarding quickly, as you have to, when shallow water ocean wave jumping. Worth $130 or so.

The two seater Honda has trim, advantage to Honda. (I believe the 3 seater Honda dosn't have it )

Personally, I think the arguement over the reverse lever is total crap. When you ride a boat different from your own, having the reverse handle on the other side is going to bother you. Doesn't matter if you are going from left to right, or right to left.

The crafts are $9,000. Kawi vs $10,500. Honda

To get the Honda up to it's potential, you need to spend another $850 for the mods and boarding step for a total of $11.300.

I may be wrong, but if you spend another $2,300 on the Kawi, to equal $11.300, you would have to get the Riva turbo kit, and end up in the 70mph range......

    Good Luck !

Just curious on this ....does anyone here really have a problem reaching across with their left hand to pull the kawi into reverse if your right hand is already busy?

I have tried it several times and fail to see how its hard to do....and if a newbie is riding my ski i like that its not as likely to have them pop it into reverse at speed.

Have you ever seen the end result of some moron grabbing reverse at cruising speeds....I have on a seedoo and it was not pretty.

Reaching over is just not natural. I use my reverse to help me pull up to a dock easy with bumping it. I turn the reverse on...and off real quick...and I like to get my hand back to the left grip quickly.

I actually think the reverses are just a good neutral. I use mine to slow down when docking or trailering. It isn't a very affective tool to back up. When I use my reverse I usually use my right hand on the reverse and my left hand to bump the throttle if need be. People don't realize how much crap is kicked up with the reverse bucket down. I like the fact that the reverse is the biggest problem the critics have with my ski.

I may have your solution. I have a 2004 Honda aquatrax r12x and a 2005 Yamaha stx 15f on a double trailer for sale. Let me know if you're interested.
