    Yamaha 701 stator instalation question

Putting a new stator in my 701. Question is, where do I thighten the plate? I don't want to alter the timing. Should the screws be in the center of the adjuster? Is there an easy way to set it to stock location? When I have taken the plate off in the past I marked the location so there was no issue, but this is a new plate. Any suggestions????

There are marks on the cases and on the stator. Line them up...center mark is 0 degrees, and the further mark is advancement.

    AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys, I didn't even see those marks.
Matt: I only have one mark. Would it be worth it to advance it just a little? Turning the plate counterclock wise would advance it, correct?

    Thanks again fellas.

On my surf boat I run Enhancer, +4 degrees advance, w/ 175#,"B", mild porting. Pump gas. No prob. Just no drag racing allowed. Makes your ski very responsive. Snappy. I would bump it up if thats all you do with this ski. To advance move the stator opposite the diredtion of engine rotation. 1mm = 1 degree.

That's awesome to know... one question, which direction does the engine rotate? I would like to try that out. Thanks bro...

There should be one mark on the cases, and three (right next to each other) on the stator. One center mark, and one retard and one advance mark. The advance mark is further away from the center, in the CW direction. If you don't have those marks, rotate the stator CCW about 3-4mm.

I always forget, If you take a gander at your prop it will solve the mystery. Better yet hang an old one on the shop wall.

If you stand in the tray, it rotates the ski cw, so the engine spins CCW, looking at it from the rear coupler.
