2000 Sea Doo 717 no compression

tested compression on this with a autozone rental - 90psi front, 30 psi back. I see references to a leak test before I do anything on this motor.

Do I do a leak test or just start the rebuild?

    thx

Because it is a 720(717), it is possible a small end bearing
came apart and scattered through the engine. If this turns
out to be the case, a pressure vacuum test is unnecessary.

So I would recommend to remove the head and look at the
pistons and head. If they have poke marks and maybe pieces
of roller bearings embedded in the piston and head, a complete
tear down is in the future.

If the piston is only seized, maybe missing part of the piston.
Look for an obvious problem like an oil injector line, or an empty,
    or recently filled oil tank.

If the pistons are seized, take pictures and post them here.
It is possible the engine ingested water while running from
either the intake, or the exhaust from a roll-over.

But if the skirts broke, you are back to a complete teardown
because broken pistons can crack or break out the bottom
    of the crankcase.

If there is no obvious cause, and your thinking that maybe it
is just a top end overhaul, then defiantly perform the pressure-
    vacuum test.

Reinstall the head, and remove the flywheel cover. You may
have read a pressure test will do, but a pressure vacuum test
is the professional way to test the engine.

Keep in mind that if you do not find the cause, your rebuild
may seize again for the same reason.

If your 720 has spent time in the salt water, broken bolts on
the cylinder head and flywheel cover might occur.

Chances are your main seals are worn and at least leaking
vacuum. On an old ski, the complete rebuild may be the
    best plan.

Guy I got it from said he rebuilt the carburetor. Tried turning it over but would not fire. I see this oil in the hull. Think that is the culprit.

Good possibility the oil leak was a common minor oil leak
caused by a hose clamp, or an oil tank crack or grommet.

To fix it, just cut an inch off of the oil supply hose before
    you reattach the hose.

Was the oil tank full when you bought it? People will run
there oil tank empty, and then fill it to the top wishing
    nothing bad happened.

    Hope he wasn't a friend.

Not a friend, just a guy. Don't think he realized the issue was internal. I'll check the oil lines. If I find the problem, rebuild the top and give it a go?

No, it needs a rebuilt crank too.

If you got it running with a minimum of parts, the likelihood
of a future catastrophic failure that would ruin the cases,
cylinder head, rotary valve, rotary valve shaft is high.

At least do a complete tear down to evaluate the rust damage,
and possibly determine why the previous owner was unable
to get the water out when he used it last.

Bill - do you have a link to that process? Myself - you are not brightening my morning.
