    So the DES post is the switch and the lanyard programmed to the MPEM allows the switch to open or close the circuit.

    The DESS post has a magnetic reed switch that completes a ground circuit for safety. It also has a data wire that the MPEM uses to 'read' the serial number on the lanyard. IF the lanyard is recognized by the MPEM then the MPEM allows a start.

    You will not get power to anything without the correct lanyard or having a lanyard programmed to the new MPEM. I AM NOT SURE HOW MANY DIFFERENT WAYS I CAN SAY THIS.

    Wow, I don’t think my questions warranted capital letters in your response but if it makes you feel better so be it. I do appreciate your replies. I’m just trying to figure this out.
