Word on the street to fill Mead back up is the ocean...

Desalinization of salt water into fresh water is what’s being discussed. Saudi Arabia does this with their water supply. As well as other desert countries.

Save Davis Dam and use technology.

Filling up Mead using ocean water doesn't make sense. Use a lot of energy to pump water uphill into Mead just to let it back down again? You lose around 15% in energy efficiency in each direction over short distances, and with the long distance from the ocean to Mead there will be a lot of evaporative losses along with seepage losses. Desalinization can make sense for areas close to the ocean or for extremely arid areas. While I could see cities like Vegas and Phoenix being supplied with water from the ocean, I can't envision it for filling up a large reservoir. A huge part of Mead's supply is used to get water to the Los Angeles area -- and that area, being so close to the Pacific, wouldn't get any desalinized water from Mead.

Read the other day that it takes 1900 gallons of water for 1lb of almonds/nuts.. So maybe we need to stop growing certain things in the desert. Also should start going in the direction of Israel and Australia for farming.
