How about if your looking to buy, say a 96xp, what are the signs that the seals are going?
Engine smokes on startup I suppose?

The thick gear lube does not leak into the cases. You can hold a flashlight under the tubing and see the lube in it. I have maybe added 1 oz to my son's the whole time.....like 5 years!

Engine will smoke BADLY on startup. Can also foul plugs while riding in a single day. Most commonly hydro locks the engine with oil over winter storage.

Got crank bearings in bypass. Backfire backfire , brand new plugs. Now I got this going on.......see video
Now the carb sheet said 1.5 turns out if on 96xp, New carbs have accelerator on them. Is that wrong?? High side all the way in......

Put a volt meter on the battery and watch the DC voltage while it's running. What does it do?

A bad voltage regulator will cause one to act like that......it confuses the ignition system.
