    550/750 ebox relocation

    Iím posting this for a friend. He picked up a nice 87 550 with a small pin in it. The ebox is mounted on the front of the motor. The box keeps rattling loose even with loc tite. Is there a way to move the box to where the stock 550 ebox was? Conversion plate or something? I see the sell a whole brand new box to move it but its $400 from hot products! OUCH!!

    Thanks!

    Re: 550/750 ebox relocation

    Depending on what e-box he is running, we have a mount plate to put a stock 750 ss, ssxi, sts box in the place where the stock 550 was;

    If is it another type of box, you may have to make something your self.

    Will it work in a 87 hull? The link says it needs a SX driveshaft to work.

    Thanks for the quick response john! Donít you sleep out there!

    It definitely works with an sx drive line and I'm pretty sure it would hit the bearing carrier on the older 550 hulls. It's a tight fit...rrr

    What do you guys typically do with this conversion? Leave the ebox on the front of the motor? Looks like his mount is homemade it looks like a giant shoe horn with holes drilled in it. Cant be factory!

    Yeah, sorry our bracket only works with the SX driveline. (IE later 550sx, OR "IF" you are running a 750 pump conversion you will then run the X2 shaft and it will work). The "JS" drive bearing carrier is too large and the box will hit on it.

    Re: 550/750 ebox relocation

    I ran a SX style smaller ebox, like Triple RRR shows above, in that position above the JS driveline for years. BUT, it requires the X2 shaft like John referred to above, and usually the further forward of two mounting positions if your conversion bed plate has them. Basically you make a plate which has the bolt pattern of both the stock box location and the 750 box.

    Re: 550/750 ebox relocation

    I got a little fancy and machined a spacer from another 550 box and squeezed everything into the expanded box. It wasn't easy but it worked and looks very clean. Hood seal just sitting, waterline routing was not correct at the time of picture, in case you were wondering.image000002 (1).jpg

    Re: 550/750 ebox relocation

    I just used a 1 inch thick cutting board and drilled it to the oem location, it held up for 6 years when I owned it, man i miss that ski, at the time it was the nicest one in Michigan that I.ve seen.

    Re: 550/750 ebox relocation

    I fab'ed one from a peice of sheet metal. Liked the location, but was a pain to remove the battery. Switching from studs to bolts may have made that easier. I'm parting out my ski currently, and can pull this if if you want it, either for inspiration or to use. PM me if you think it would help.
