    95 speedster 657X engine

Port engine will rev to 7K and stay there, no problem. but starboard engine will rev to 6K+ but after a few minutes it will drop back to 4K, runs smooth, but won't run over 4K for a few seconds and than will go back to 6K for a for a minute or so and will do it over again. I have run out of ideas on what may be wrong. I have replaced the following parts. Both rectifiers-new parts. starboard ignition coil, new ignition wires and caps, new plugs, new o ring on fuel filter. replaced both carbs that have been rebuilt with Mikuni parts. Area's checked are all associated wires connected to ignition coil, mag, rectifier's. run temp fuel line from tank to carb's to eliminate fuel valve or hose leaks. Removed exhaust muffler and hose to check for blockage, looked and tested ok. PSI on both cylinders at 152lbs. 2 new battery's voltage at 12.6 and 12.7. any help will be appreciated.

Bypass the pet**** (fuel selector valve) and see what that does , also a good possibility that the stator is going out, you would have to do an AC voltage check on that pretty much right after it starts acting up.

I worked on a twin engine sportster 1800 one time , twin 720's ion that one , it did this exact same thing, it was a bad stator, still you need to do some electrical checks before pronouncing *** dead.

Ran the ski on the river to check the voltage at the battery, It was 14.4 DC volts max at 6K and when the engine started to act up the voltage stayed the same, it looks like the rectifier/regulator is doing its job. what is next?
also did the static test on the charging coil Yellow and yellow/black wire resistance was 0.4 with in spec. also I disconnected the red/green wire from the rectifier to controller, still had the problem. What is my next best thing to try.

Not what I wanted you to check, I need to know what the AC voltage is that powers the COIL-CDI

OK, Voltage from the magneto starboard side, 17v a/c at idle and 42v a/c at 5K. The port side was 14v a/c at idle and 45v a/c at 6K. This was done on the trailer.

That was the magneto to the rectifier voltage, will do the other later.

OK, voltage from the magneto to the ignition coil is 35v a/c at idle and up to 40v A/C at 5K

    Re: 95 speedster 657X engine

You are not getting it, it does not do any good to check this on the trailer or while it's not acting up, as you can see it all checks good, make it act up in the water then check the voltage, then you will know what you are dealing with.
