1996 Wave Venture 1100 Running Rough

My ‘96 Wave Venture 1100 runs fine up until about 1/3 throttle, then runs rough and bogs down. Also last time out noticed a LOT of smoke buildup inside the engine and battery compartments. Plugs are new, and gas I presume is good as I was regularly using Startron last season (didn’t put in fuel stabilizer during winterization however). Last time it ran without any issue was prior to last year‘s winterization. I‘ve only had it out twice this year, first time with old plugs, second with new plugs and Seafoam gas additive... Carb issue?

ANY smoke in the engine compartment will cause those symptoms. Start it at night. Use a flashlight to see where the smoke is coming from. The light beam helps 'amplify' the smoke.

Thanks for the suggestion. Was able to try it tonight. I noticed a small plume of smoke around the cover to the carburetor assembly just after startup, but nothing else. Also didn't see or feel any cracks in the exhaust hoses.

Try having somebody help by shoving a rag over the exhaust outlet while you look. That will increase the exhaust backpressure and maybe something will show up.

While you are riding it, or on your trailer?

While I'm riding it. On the trailer, sounds like it could possibly be running a little rough but hard to tell..

Could the smoke have anything to do with using Seafoam? Used it for first time before launching it that day.

Did you try what Myself suggested with the rag?

Exhaust blocks oxygen and the engine can't burn exhaust twice,
so the engine will not even get up on a plane with an exhaust
    leak.

After that, I recommend inspecting a few easy things. The spark
plugs and the compression. Many people don't realize their engine
dropped a cylinder and keep riding it anyway.

I realize the spark plugs are new, but is one of the white, and clean?
Some form of oil or color on a plug is an indication that cylinder is
running. If a plug is white, and clean it is very possible that cylinder
    was dead.

Unscrew your fuel filler cap, and inspect the gasket. Is it missing?

Is your inline fuel filter full. When they are new 1/2 to 3/4 full is
    normal.

Next, remove the fuel filter without loosing any fuel. Keep it as level
as possible. Then dump the contents of the fuel filter into a container
and look for water in the gasoline.

Tried all the suggestions. After plugging the Exhaust Outlet, a little bit of smoke was evident in the area around the engine and exhaust manifold, but nothing major. Could a small amount cause a buildup quickly when the seat is on?.. Compression is good (had already tested this), spark plugs not sure.. I could check them if you think it's still advisable... Gasket on Fuel Cap looks ok.. Fuel Filter was full, Gas looks ok but not the greatest.

Thanks a lot Bill and Myself for the help.. looking forward to hearing what you have to say next...

These watercraft are fairly airtight. The more load on the engine......the more smoke......the more it chokes on itself. There can be NO exhaust leaks into a watercraft hull.

If there is an exhaust leak, what caused it?
