A washer in the exit tube of a FP waterbox??
I've never seen any aftermarket waterbox with any kind of restrictor in the exit.

Ah, gotcha, and yeah I have seen that in the blaster box, just never in any SJ box.

The bilge pickup is an easy fix when everything is out of the way.

Pulling the midshaft next for inspection and spline lube

Well, the midshaft spins buttery smooth, but the pump bearings, umm, not so much.
And of course 1 of the 4 pump thru bolts is missing and the other 3 were finger tight, you know, cuz loctite is hard to use N stuff, lol.
Time for some press time and pump work. And the skat 14/20 impeller is interesting...can't say I've even heard of that pitch. I've had the 13/18, 14/19, and 15/20...but never a 14/20. And the splines are begging for a healthy layer of anti-seize, as they were bone dry.

Like I said, I didn't need to ride it before taking it all apart first. Same sh1t, different decade.

Good thing is I have everything in stock and in my stash to get all of this sorted out nicely.

I'm curious about the porting, do these Yamaha exhaust ports come smooth from the factory? Mine were really smooth, i was ready to do some polishing when I took it apart and it was pretty smooth. Top end on my SN was the first Yamaha top end I ever did, so I didn't know what exactly to expect. It did have stock pistons, no overbore or anything though.

All the Kaw and Poos I've taken apart had some pretty rough casting in the exhaust ports. Not sure if the Yams are just smooth or if it means someone's been in there.

The give away is when the window in the sleeve is a smooth transition to the exhaust runner. Then you know it was ported/worked on. When stock there will be some sleeve overlap.

That pump is begging for some grinding. I blueprint all the pumps on my personal skis.

Yeah, me too, or I run Solas mags.
If I was keeping this ski and planning to ride in jet wash (aka, race it) or ride it in Lake Michigan surf a lot, I'd put the time and effort into blueprinting.
I haven't shared my secret plan for this ski yet, but I doubt it will remain in my hoard after I've finished it.
