Re: Just another silly Squarenose re-do

The nosepiece install trick is crazy simple and cheap.
    100% pure silicone sealant.
Run the beads as shown in the pictures.
Also put a glob on both screws.

I've experimented a bit with where to put the beads. Specifically, I used to run a bead down in the channel on each side. That works too, but the cleanup work is increased, and fuel spills tend to go there, so I found that running the side beads up a bit higher works the same or better and is easier overall. Basic key is to keep the front and sides of the nosepiece from being able to flex and get water underneath when doing stabs/subs. The silicone is the right balance of adhesion and serviceability. 5200 would hold better, and forever, lol, and would make it difficult to remove the nosepiece without breaking it.

Time to get a carb ready and installed, and then a battery.
    It's almost vroom vroom time.

Well, she now goes vroom vroom.
Time for some final odds & ends, and some trailer tuning.
Way too cold in Wisconsin to ride at this point...at least I'm certainly not motivated to ride at this point

Plan next is to inspect the reeds.
Throttle response isn't as snappy as I'd like, and it's behaving a bit like the reeds are less than healthy.

But I've been a bit tied up lately here in SE Wisconsin with yard projects, and I'm basically right in between Kenosha and Waukesha, so there's that...you may have seen some news stories.
Oh, and I bought a B2 and a WR3 sitting on the big Karavan 2-place, yesterday. Both had been sitting 5-7 years. Got the B2 running yesterday aft and sold it. Trailer is available. WR3 will be running and available soon/next.

Hoping to have more progress on this SN soon.
Had far more important things to deal with as of late. We even had to delay our Thanksgiving dinner until yesterday...but things are finally crawling back to normal now, and I'm off work for 11 days straight starting this afternoon.

I've also got a fun FX1 project coming soon.

Re: Just another silly Squarenose re-do

    Back to work.

So anyhow, after I got this SN assembled and test fired...it ran, but my ears told me not correctly. Wasn't snappy like it should be...classic sound of a broken or worn out reeds. Also, with the flame arrestor removed I had visible fuel huffing back up out of the carb. Not uncommon with duals, but with a single carb, and minor reed issues on one side, the excess back "chuff" of fuel can often get sucked back down through the side with the good reeds - so when it's visible out the top of the carb, it's time to dig further.

Oh, and this motor is another example of how yamis can actually suck these metal reeds through the motor without doing serious damage...seen it many, many times...literally no damage, good compression...

Time to swap in some good reeds and continue.

Oh, this also explains why the previous owner was never able to get this SN running correctly.

Much better now with fresh reeds and intake gaskets.

All that remains now is some test riding and final tune...once the fox river reverts back to liquid form.

Re: Just another silly Squarenose re-do

    Here's another trick.
With many aftermarket throttles, compared to oem, the distance from the upper cable barrel in the throttle to the perch for the adjustment barrel, is shorter. This means you wind up with excess cable slack down at the carb that you can't always absorb with the adjuster. So, yeah, you can buy a throttle wheel, with multiple barrel positions, or if you have a pile of extra OEM carb parts...you can make your own.20211224_131537.jpg20211224_131541.jpg
