    550 Piston Port Stator

Looking for a 1990 550sx Piston Port Stator. My good friend bought his son a ski and my research tells me we have a bad stator. I dont know if piston port or reed motor stators are different as I have not wrenched on one in years, not for a stator anyway. This kid wants to ride ASAP! Trying to help out.

PM with what you may have!

    Thanks!!

It does have spark and will fire almost immediately when the battery is freshly charged. Battery is brand new, 12.5ish volts. Did not OHM it yet, I ran out of daylight. Battery voltage drops to 7-8ish when attempting to start engine. WHen running it sits around 11 volts, not the 13-13.4 range it should be to charge.

Ski fires immediately when the battery has a fresh charge or jump box hooked up. Previous owner stated to my friend that he "did not check the stator", and my friend wouldn't even know to ask about it.

No big deal, we'll get it fixed.

There could be an issue with the rectifier/regulator as well, Ill find out later when I head back over there

    Could be weak flywheel magnets
    I’ve had it happen twice

If it starts and runs , more than likely , on the charge coil , the big copper one on bottom of stator , has two broken wires that are soldered to a ground lug , resolder those and it will work , unless coil is bad , I have charge coils in stock and those can be replaced separately to save you some cash , check to see if you have continuity on the two green wires coming from stator , of not then charge coil is bad or wires are de soldered and open , the run part is good so a stator is not needed unless you want to do the whole thing , can post ohm readings if you donít have a manual

I'd appreciate OHM readings and wire colors to save me from searching. Thanks! I can definitely check all those other items. Owner of ski is a friend and I dont want to tear motor apart or anything until he talks to the guy he bought it from last week, trying to be minimally invasive until then but trying to get a proper diagnosis.

Disconnect stator wire connector to box housing , two bolts , there is the connector , unplug , test the two greenies , and each green to black , check readings

Here are the wire colors/resistance values for the stator coils.
