    1992 Kawasaki 750sx Flatdeck

picked up a basket case 750sx with a damaged hull.. figured since it needed fiberglass work, I might as do somethin' custom & deck it out.

    Nice!
I've always wondered how much structural integrity do you loose by flatdecking any ski? I mean you have to loose some, its a fact but has any of you guys snapped a hull in half in the surf?

not sure how much structural integrity is lost especially after it's all glassed over.. i cant imagine it would be too much loss.. there really wasn't much there.. thin hull walls, foam and storage tubes.

nope, never snapped a hull in half.. that'd be gnarly though..

progress thus far.. wrapped the exhaust in titanium heat shield material my cousin had laying around, then bondo glassed the storage tubes in place, the one with the exhaust is borderline useless because it houses the exhuast pipe, the other tube I cut and screwed in a clear piece of plexiglass and added some goodies for anyone who takes a peek i masked off the transition piece with blue tape and filled her up with expanding foam. after the foam cured i trimmed and sanded to shape. then measured and cut the pads to fit the way they wanna.. gonna try the same mask-off and foam technique for the transition piece between the two pads before wrapping them with a new vinyl upholstery material.. 750deck-4.JPG750deck-5.JPG750deck-6.JPG750deck-7.JPG750deck-8.JPG750deck-9.JPG750deck-10.JPG

You could build up the bottom layer with some glass and epoxy resin for more strength. I would recommend epoxy for glueing all that up. It’s strong as nails and will bond to smc

thanks, yeah plan to glass/epoxy over everything, and level the deck out at that point, the original tray sits nearly 1/2" lower than the side rails.

this ski came with a replacement gas cover, but no lock.. so I it'd be cooler and more retro looking if the gasser was exposed on the nose..so i drilled a 2.25" hole aligned with the original hole underneath. plan is to foam the void and glass the cover flush so it looks right
