2001 Yamaha XL800 no start, blowing fuse
Hi, new to the forum, also new to working on jet skis. I am hoping someone can help me with my problem. I was trying to start my jet ski to winterize it and the battery ran down while i was cranking it. I pushed the stop button to stop the motor from turning, but it ran all the way down. I charged the battery and tried to hook the battery up. I hooked the positive cable up and when i tried to hook up the ground wire, it arched. It blew the fuse in the electrical box. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it?

Sounds like your starter solenoid shorted out.

Thanks for replying. Can you tell me how to check the starter solenoid? If you are familiar with this model, can you tell me if it also has a starter relay? The reason i am asking is i also have a hot wire running to the front of the jet ski beside the fuel tank. I cant see what it goes to.

There should be no "hot wires" running up front. Post a pic of this wire. The solenois IS the relay. Same thing different name.

I took pictures, probably didnt look check close enough. Seems to be a plastic hose instead of a hot wire. Sorry

That's a cable, either steering or reverse. Looks like I also see throttle and choke cables.

Having to hold off on the repair because of the weather. I will try replacing the starter solenoid later. I appreciate your help.
