    550 FUN build. Options hmm

Ive already got multiple standups, but whats one more right?

ive got 2 Bone stock 85s for just cruising and letting people learn, and ive got a couple built 76s with 550s.

So now im thinking, i need a fun wake ski/ short buoy chase ski, Ive got a couple options, do i go 750SP or 650 yam? Both are single carb setups but will go twins down the road.

Which is better for that SNAP *bottom end grunt to launch it up and out of the water?

Been reading a few build threads on here, ugly red, etc.. and i read if i go 750, im going to want a 20* impellor.

Ive got both engines setting on the floor, so both are easily obtained .

Im thinking early-mid 80s 440/500 hull with a 550 jet *dont have to worry about jet flex*,extended rideplate with skags, and aftermarket sponsons/tubbys.

I'd stick with a Kawi engine. The Yamaha conversions I have seen were poor fit / alignment, and just a pain in the a..

John does the Rhaas conversion kit make the alignment better, but not an optimum fit/alignment?

the kawi engine is definitely much easier to install. the 750sp will make more power than the 650 yamaha. a lot of the conversion issues with the yamaha swap is the rhaas urethane mounts. but ive never messed with one so i cant really comment. i did use the rhaas conversion plates for my 750 swap and i liked it because you can set the engine farther back and run the stock engine coupler.

Dang! I have an extra Yamaha 6m6 that runs pretty strong. I don't have a 750. I would like to try the 550sx hull with a larger engine...

It is just the whole thing. Rhass Parts were not the best fitment, had to modify almost everything to get it to work. Pipe hit the e-box, etc.

didnt see people commenting on this untill now.

I was dabating yam because they make their power down low, whereas kawis like their high rpm. and figured the bottom end torque would be a better fit in a poormans freestyle ski.

I also have an 89 300sx hull i could build, i see thats semi-common. i also have a WB3 jetpump laying around. it got alot longer front chute.

its true the 701 has a little lower port timing than the 750 depending on what 750 cylinder you have. kawasaki made 4 or 5 different 750 cylinders. the early #20 and #22 casting 750 cylinders will make the best low end. but its all in how you set up the impeller and pipe as well.
