Recently rebuilt card and changed all fuel lines on a 98 GTS I purchased. Had it on the water and was running great for a couple of days. Last day was on water for about an hour when all of a sudden it sputtered once and died. Was able to restart after resetting kill switch for about 30 seconds then it died again. Won't start now. Any ideas on troubleshooting steps to try and narrow it down as I'm brand new to jetski's.

Sounds like it has scored the bore and lost compression in one cylinder.Need to test compression before anything else.Report back and let us know -

Checked compression on both cylinders (140-150) so I think they are both good. Checked spark and it is good. Can get ski to fire but most often will only run for a few seconds. Once in awhile it will run for a period but is real rough and when I give it throttle it bogs down. As mentioned the carb was recently rebuilt and had been running just fine before issue started.Comment

No.. Just replaced last year when I replaced all fuel lines and rebuilt carb.Comment

Check filter in carb to verify clean , new needle and seat ? Oe kit on carb ?Comment

I pulled carb back off this last weekend and filter was clean. It is an OEM kit (mikuni) on carb... It appears to be getting plenty of fuel. If I have flame arrestor off when turning over I can see spits of fuel out top.Comment

Make sure rotar valve is turning , pull carb and plugs , turn over by hand by turning PTO , should see valve moving thru intake manifoldComment

Stripped gear at crankshaft , common problem , it's a mechanical Reed valve , so if it's not movin you ain't runninComment

Good call Bionic racing; rotor valve not turning. Does that mean motor disassembly to see what is wrong? What are recommended next steps?Comment

motor disassembly is what I had done for my 97 GTS for motor valve not turningComment
