    Ventura Moto Surf - June 13 & 14, Cancelled

Racers, below is the email received today from my liason from the CA State Parks office in Ventura. While it was not unexpected I'm still very bummed as I put a lot of work into the 2nd surf race. The good news is I already have requested our 2nd surf race date for the 2021 season- same weekend as was planned for this year - June 12 & 13, 2021. Don't give up hope as I'm working with Lake Elsinore for a possible July & August race dates and Huntington Beach has already given us November 7 & 8 for Moto-Surf & Freeride this year and then April 17 & 18, 2021 to start next years Hot Products Best of the West Series!

"California State Parks on special events and the evolving pandemic response. Please be advised that all special events/public gathering within my district of California State Parks (Channel Coast District) are to be cancelled through June 28, 2020. This includes San Buenaventura State Beach.

Please do what you must on your end to ensure your event staff/volunteers and participants know the previously scheduled “Ventura Moto Surf” on June 13, 2020 at San Buenaventura State Beach near the Ventura Pier is formally cancelled by California State Parks. I am sad to have to inform all who have worked hard on planning these special gatherings. Our hope is that the hard work we collectively put in now to “meet the moment” will pay off later in time with even better events/beach days."

Fear not, we will race in 2020!!!

Has anyone tried to set up races at castaic lake? They have a lower lake with a HUGE beach and plenty of parking..lake is small enough for flat water, yet large enough for races. Pm me , I have some connects at the lake I can try to get the ball rolling. Seems like the more venues the better right now..
There is a 'Race around the lake' they plan most years for dirtbikes/off road. I cant imagine them turning down some jet ski races

Any State or local municipal Lake I tried to get a permit with flatly turned me down with the exception of Elsinore which eventually turned me down. I am throwing a "hail mary" with La Paz County Park in Parker right now and waiting on their response for September 12 & 13. I'll keep everyone posted as we're out of options if this last hope fall through......

Why is California so against organized racing? Dirt bikes have tracks in every county. There are a ton of lakes in california, and even harbors or beaches. This might be one reason why no manufacturers dump money into R&D because places like California are so against it.

NOt that they are against it right now its a covid thing and ca does not want any large gatherings what so ever.Ross puts on other races besides pwc he hasnt been able to have any races this year.Im sure he hasnt taken a break trying to get them set up and prob been working around the clock trying to figure how and where to have one at.

Gotcha, well I still think castaic would be a great venue. Whenever 'the powers that be' let us gather again. We should try for it. I think its a perfect setup. And there are local shops IE:Jetworld that im sure would want to be involved. 40 mins from Ventura / Oxnard area. A more Central location. And tons of space for pits, parking, beach, ect.

konakev, some years back (like 5 or 6) I met with the staff for Castaic and they would love to have racing back at the lower lake on certain conditions: 1.) time of year, they only wanted to allow me November through Feb. - when I asked for March it was like pulling teeth. 2.) cost involved, once again the permit costs are egregious for PWC racing as they basically wanted to shut down the entire lower lake for the race which I tried explain was ludicrous as we could successfully set up a safety perimeter as we do at other venues and the public is kept safe but this too fell on deaf ears. 3.) Covid 19 and our lovely Governor.....he's got all State and County parks on lockdown for the duration of this pandemic and as close as I came to holding the event in Elsinore (which is City owned) it too got cancelled. When things turn around maybe it might be time to see if Castaic has changed their tune but I doubt it, they pretty much read from the script on how to make it damn near impossible to hold an event at their lake. I hope this changes but somehow I doubt it......

Thanks for all your time and all you do Ross.
Been apart of races at both venues way back.... Ventura Surf for the win all day long! Much more to offer the racers and fans alike.

I see. I have spoken with the "friends of castaic" recently which is essentially the workforce that makes anything happen at castaic lake as they are the volunteer force behind everything at the lake and they are all for racing to resume, I also have contacts with the lake supervisor who is also a water sports enthusiast himself. I understand the covid part creating a huge hurdle for anything "venue" related as well. I have high hopes of racing to resume at castaic lower lake as soon as this pandemic thing is over. Keep fingers crossed.
