    1986 Kawi js300 help newbie

Hey all Iím 21 years old and familiar with four stroke motorcycle engines and Chevy small blocks but have never owned a two stroke before. Just got this project js300 and have never owned a boat or pwc before myself (dad has own many inboard boats). Anyways the guy I got it from says it just needs a battery and a carb clean and from my experience itís usually that and then some more. What should I look at before trying to test it out? Also Iím a beginner with two stokes so any help on those would be appreciated like oil gas type? Any help would be appreciated thank you.

You can but only for a short period, approx 20-45 seconds. Donít let it get too hot.

typically most members here do do over a toilet.

Any 2 stroke oil that is rated TCW3 is fine. Don't over rev the engine when it is out of the water -- a couple of blips to around 3000 RPM is OK. If it is still equipped with the original oil tank and pump for oil injection be careful because old oil lines break easily and can starve the engine of oil. Most forum members here recommend using premixed oil + gas.

Thanks! Yeah I read that they were originally set up to mix in operation but I think I’ll just use the normal tank and just pre mix.

Is there anything I have to do if I want to just run premix or do I just leave all the lines to the carb the same? When I removed the carb to clean it I noticed three lines im guessing ones gas ones oil and ones vacuum? Any help is appreciated, I texted for spark and it’s nice and blue! Next up is the fuel delivery system. So any help on how to get premix fuel to the carb is what I need! Thanks!

Well got a ivy bag fuel system and battery tried to start it up and it got some back fire I’m guessing the timing is off? Someone had it modded or thought advancing the timing would make it faster? How do I check and properly time it? Do I remove the entire stator cover (gas tank side)?
