    JS550 PP Head Cap Nuts

Hey guys, any reason I couldn't use stainless steel cap bolts from Home Depot? HD has them in the same thread/size for .89 each vs. $5 each through parts suppliers/ebay. What are your thoughts?

Another source I found is https://www.belmetric.com/. No affiliation - they just had my stainless head studs and acorn nuts for a reasonable price.

You plan to install stainless head studs in addition to the stainless nuts?

When I did the teardown 4 of the existing steel head studs snapped off. I had assumed that since the base studs were stainless the head studs were supposed to be as well. Any issues going that route? Torque specs looked like they would be in range.

I run into it on occasion so just a friendly head up... In my experience stainless head studs tend to stretch. If you end up blowing head gaskets, burning combustion O-rings or have water ingestion issues your head studs may be the source of the problem.

imho, stainless head studs are a bad idea unless you like experimenting and just want to give it a try to see what happens?

First of all, not all stainless steel is the same. Buy only A4 or 316 rated stainless steel.

Second, does Home Depot actually have metric stainless steel flanged cap/acorn nuts? Remember your ski is metric.

This is where I bought the stainless steel head flange nuts for the X2.

    https://www.kawasakipartshouse.com/o...-head-cylinder

If you noodle around the site, you will find parts for your model and year.

Because my head is shaved I also had to use these thick ss metric washers:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/25-M8-OR-8m...53.m2749.l2649

They are available in 10mm and 8mm thick ss.

mcn6 I look for your posts because I always learn something. Thank you for posting!

Appreciate the heads up mcn6 - not looking to experiment at all. As Shawtown mentioned the main driver was price and I wasn't really interested in dropping $180 on studs, nuts and washers from a parts house.

Back on the hunt for steel head studs - are grade 8 enough for the job?

Also sorry for the slight thread diversion Shawtown.

Grade 8 is not a metric standard.
You are looking for 10.9 metric if you want hardened.
