    JetMate Carb replacement

I'm having trouble with the original carb on my ski. Fuel coming in and out of the carb input and return lines but no gas is getting to the plugs. I've rebuilt and this several times, not sure its an issue with the diaphragm in the carb if I should just replace the carb with another. These seem to be hard to find. Anyone have any suggestions on what my issue might be or a different set up that would work? If I pour some gas in the plug holes it will fire, but wont run. Thanks.

    Re: JetMate Carb replacement

You must have blockage in the carb, or installed something incorrectly when rebuilding.

When you rebuilt the carb, did you use a genuine Keihin brand kit? Personally I have NEVER had any luck with any of the aftermarket kits.

We have had two skis in this season, where customers rebuilt the carb themselves with kits from Amazon, ski's would not run. I did nothing more than replace all internal gaskets/diaphragms with OE Keihin parts, and both skis ran perfectly after. I see this all the time....

John, thanks for your reply. Full disclosure I don't think I used OE or genuine Keihin kits. I just ordered the kit from SBT site.

That was a common problem for all 650's in Kawasaki service
departments. Our diaphragm carbs are adversely affected by
problems that barely effect float bowl carbs.

The most common problem is the needle and seat isn't opening,
so there is no fuel inside the float chamber. Kawasaki Tech Hotline
(for dealer mechanics that need help), came up with the "paper clip
        trick."

It confirms the needle and seat wasn't opening by: cranking the engine
over and build up fuel pressure inside the fuel pump. Then the paper
clip pushes the diaphragm inwards and opens the needle and seat to
allow the float chamber to fill.

If the engine starts, you found the problem. But if the engine starts
and then dies (like when you prime a carb), you may have more problems.

Both problems maybe caused by a vacuum leak. Normally Keihin carbs
leak manifold vacuum from the carb base gasket and a few other places.

There are other places that can develop vacuum leaks or the engine may
        have problems developing manifold vacuum.

Hopefully it is a carb adjustment that is causing the needle and seat to
        remain closed.

Priming the engine or carb is another way to confirm the needle and
        seat was closed.

If you want to rebuild your carb with good parts buy a rebuild kit and
a new carb base gasket from John, and follow the pictures instructions
on rebuilding the carb and flat sanding the areas that leak vacuum.

If you need help with a flat sanding plate, they are easy to make from
items at your local hardware shop.

A fast idle will lean out the stock low speed screw settings. So set the idle
to 1000rpm in the water, and learn how to adjust the carb using "the
idle drop test" in my blog.

Horsepower == Speed, RPM != Speed

These would be SBT brand kits then and NOT Original Keihin.
