Re: Js550 701 conversion
Great! So you haven't put the ski in the water with the 701 yet right? Please let us know how the engine affects the balance and performance of the ski over the 550 engine.
Also, how do you like the ProWatercraft rear sponsons? How do they affect performance?
Also, what is the purpose of the ProWatercraft hull stern extensions? How do they affect performance? And does your ski have a rear exhaust or a side exhaust. It looks like you are not using the hole for the exhaust in the right side stern extension?
I am keenly interested in your build because I have considered doing exactly everything you are doing to our 1993 550sx (except that I have a spare 650 6m6 instead of a 701).
I am also considering front sponsons. What are yours and how do you like them and how to they affect performance?
One more thing. The JetTrim matt looks fantastic! My wife wants me to do that to her '94 SN SJ with that same kicker.Last edited by E350; 09-02-2020, 08:26 PM.Learning Slowly...

Re: Js550 701 conversion
Thanks I like the jettrim mats too. I love the power the 701 has. It has enough power to pop me up from turns easily. I don’t notice any balance issues. The hull extensions make the ski stay flat on the water and not bounce constantly. The sponsons, ride plate, and hull extensions make the ski handle sooo much better than a stock 550. The prowatercraft stuff is worth the money. I have the side exhaust so the hole in the hull extension isn’t being used. Good luck with your build!

But the 550 hull is superior to the FX-1 hull IMHO at least with my level of experience.
Thanks for the pictures. It is clearly not bow heavy.
One more question, what front sponsons do you recommend?
I will keep the 550sx pump and just install the 650 6m6.Learning Slowly...
