Flywheel Need to be Removed to Split Crankcase? 750sx
Re: Flywheel Need to be Removed to Split Crankcase? 750sx
update....
tried to slide hammer the ball off.. after carefully heating the crank the welded bolt on the stuck ball still broke off... lol
next step, since the weld weakened the temper on the stuck ball....they're going to cut it flat... then try a carbon drilling again. hopefully this time it will come off. wow!
Re: Flywheel Need to be Removed to Split Crankcase? 750sx
They weren't harmed. They started about 3/8ths into the crank, which was where the ball was wedged only about 3/8ths also...so no dieing needed... in addition, the threads go into the crank a few inches, so the flywheel bolt was torqued to spec without issue.
I'm still reeling about that damned kawasaki flywheel puller bolt... What the hell is it supposed to attach to? I have another lightened flywheel i'm going to put on my 800, and I just cannot find out how the h e ll to use it! I went to all the auto stores for a compatible harmonic balancer puller... nothing.
Re: Flywheel Need to be Removed to Split Crankcase? 750sx
What does your puller look like? I am just guessing here as I have never pulled a Kaw flywheel, but i have pulled hundreds of other kinds of flywheels and pulleys on motorcycles, outboards, generators, and other industrial equipment, etc
Does this bolt thread all the way into the crank, then you attach the puller to the flywheel so the puller hits the head of the bolt? Then you back the bolt out of the crank to pull the flywheel.
2, 1998 TS 770 L, restored and running great as of July 2019 (NO THANKS to the person at SBT, who put the WRONG crankshaft bearing into the rebuilt engine I got from them)
Re: Flywheel Need to be Removed to Split Crankcase? 750sx
it's a harmonic balancer puller. (pic in the thread, up a couple of posts.)
No... apparently, on the 650 flywheel, it is supposed to push against the end of the crankshaft while the three outside bolts hold the flywheel. I had the wrong diameter center bolt.
I'm guessing on the 800, the center bolt then threads into the flywheel and pushes against the crank, so the harmonic balancer and the three bolts aren't needed.
