2015 RXT 260 overheating - Dealer can't figure out why

so, I have 13 days left of my seadoo warranty on my 2015 seadoo rxt 260. In april I bought my ski to Motorsports nation in Plainfield CT to be "summarized" they did the standard yearly service, I told them to look things over really well since at that time, my warranty was going to be up in 4 weeks-ish. they told me my coolant was a little low, topped it off but everything else looked good. so I get it home, I drive it for about 10 mins WOT in sport mode.. the thing goes in limp mode with temp warning. I shut it down. pop the seat and the engine is covered in coolant and there is steam everywhere....

I get it to the dealer. they hang onto it for 2 weeks... they pressurized it... filled it with water and dye.. ran it.. everything was perfect.. they think maybe the cap was loose. said everything seems perfect. I get it home.. I used it for a few short 1 min runs (I live on the water) just to get across the lake to a buddies house... ran it for about 30=50 mins total.. well yesterday, it happens AGAIN... randomly overheats after 10-12 mins of straight running... this time I check the cap first.. and its on correctly...

any ideas? why does this thing keep overheating??

    289 hours on this machine.

Thermostat? Overheating and blowing out the overflow on the tank?

Re: 2015 RXT 260 overheating - Dealer can't figure out why

dealer said everything checks out... just brought it back for its 5th overheat. 2 different dealers. dealer 1 tested everything according to seadoo. said it was a freak thing, nothing wrong with it... I get it home, ride it for 5 mins wot and it overheats....

goes to new dealer. - they want 800 to look at it (its under warranty) I said no, its under warranty. they refuse to work on it and tell me to come get it.

goes back to dealer 1 - they work on it, ride it (again) can't get it to overheat. they replace the cap and coolant res.... they then tell me that they went back out on it, rode it for 1 hour... wot, idle.. everything. worked great. said it was all set.

I take it home, ride it for 5 mins, over heats again. goes back to the dealer ( I have video evidence every time it overheated, plus the computer shows it) - dealer says they cant work on it anymore. they dont know what's wrong that its very strange that im the only person that can make it happen.

seadoo is telling me sometimes they replace machines. = where do I go from here?? is it feasible that they would replace this? it doesn't seem like it can be fixed. its FOUR YEARS OLD!!! smh

Well, I doubt they're going to replace it! But the dealer (and Seadoo) can't just wash their hands of it. They need to call Seadoo and take it from there. Don't let them send you away without doing this first!

Dealer says they are independently owned and don’t have to work on it. Another dealer told me the same exact thing and also refused to work on it. The dealer is telling me that they’re wasting too much manpower in time don’t know what’s wrong with that, Seadoo won’t pay for diagnostic time they’re not willing to work on it it’ll sit there for the rest of the summer. They are frustrated at me because it seems to be only I can make it happen yet they can ride that thing all day long and it never overheats

Re: 2015 RXT 260 overheating - Dealer can't figure out why

Seadoo actually brought it up to me that they replaced machines, I had no idea that they did that but customer service actually mentioned it to me.

I don’t know what else to do the thing is four years old freshwater only and here I am dealing with this I’m gonna lose an entire season and probably more because the dealers just won’t work on it anymore. They are completely perplexed and have no clue what’s wrong with it

Re: 2015 RXT 260 overheating - Dealer can't figure out why

The Magnuson-Moss warranty act (US Law) REQUIRES manufacturers to fulfill their obligations for warranty repairs if a covered item fails and is reported during the warranty period. You need to somehow document your issue (can you take one of your dealer's mechanics out with you to show them it's overheating)? Then, it's up to BRP and their dealer networkto get it fixed. They need to send you to an authorized dealer who will do the repairs and get paid for them. Failing that, yes, they need to replace the ski.

US Law is on your side and it sounds like it's time to start talking the Law with BRP.

That’s very helpful advice honestly. I’m gonna give it one more day and see if there’s any magic that happens between Seadoo and the dealership and then I’m gonna start talking to them about legal ramifications. I’ve acted in good faith and brought this to the dealership every single time it’s had a problem I’ve got about 30 phone calls into Seadoo and I have videos of showing it overheating with the serial number and date and time. I’m not headhunting for a new machine and playing them I just want my machine fixed reliable safe and returned but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen

Just strictly based on years of wrenching on many different things from cars to atv's to watercraft........it sure sounds like a thermostat sticking closed.
