Wtf is it w everyone wanting 4 strokes?

Is it the desire to buy a vacuum pump and do oil/filter changes? Top end rebuilds costing thousands and requiring a machine shop? Supercharger rebuilds? Needing 3 oil changes to get the water out of the engine is the ski flips?
How many gerbils could a gerbil jammer jam if a gerbil jammer could jam gerbils?

All i hear about is "they start up easy". I guess i must have owned the only half dozen or so 2 strokes on earth that didnt require a can of ether and 5 minutes of cranking.
Or maybe it's spending double the money on a used ski to get a bit better mpg.

Except for a Superjet, or an old used ski, what other choice is there? Besides, not many 2 stroke owners want to pay me $190 per hour to work on their skis. Having said that, all of mine are 2 strokes. I only own 4 strokes to rebuild and sell and I always get a premium for them.

Is it the environmentalists, they are getting 2 strokes banned in some places. Even outboards and motorcycles are going to 4 stroke.

I also regularly hear the "no maintenance" thing. Along with fuel economy. How do you think a 1500cc 4 stroke in a ski that's 350 pounds heavier is going to get better fuel economy?? Most of my customers still have 2 strokes as do I. I'm piecing together a Yamaha fx160 fir my wife cause she's tired of being tossed around and "bouncing".

My "big" skis are RX's. Those 4-stroke people don't know what they are missing.

Re: Wtf is it w everyone wanting 4 strokes?

Many years back I had a Yamaha Waveblaster II 760 and I very distinctly recall it sucking through 13 gallons of fuel in 2 hours. This was the norm and not the exception. The ski was fun(quick) but topped out at 50 so it wasn't fast. Overall it was fun.

I got out of skis and had a boat for about 10 years. Recently I have picked up two Honda Aquatrax F12Xs. These things use a fraction of the fuel(easily less than half) of what the old 760 used to suck through and they are considerable quicker/faster. They cruise at 50 like its nothing and usually it takes me a whole day to go through 13 gallons instead of 2 hours.

I'm not sure what you guys mean by 4 strokes being expensive to work on. I bought both of these machines in a non-running condition. I did a complete rebuild on the 06 and nothing was terribly expensive or difficult.

I like 2 strokes. I like the smell of 2 stroke exhaust and the way they sound and feel but I will NEVER own another two stroke ski. The fuel efficiency alone is enough to make me never look back..

X 1,000 You will have to pry my hands off my 2 strokes before I ever buy a 4 stroke !!

I ride just about every ski there is at work when I go water testing,so I get my "top speed" kick on other peoples skis !! Rode a 80 mph RXP the other day.
