xl760 not pulling fuel from tank

Just rebuilt carbs, confirmed lines are hooked up right, drained old fuel, put in 4 gals of new gas.
Selector is on reserve, fuel will pull out of baffle when sucked on
It'll run for a while and pull fuel into the line if gas is poured down carb, but won't stay running.
The lines are pretty old and very brittle, so next move is replacing them...Im thinking there is a vac leak. Also these yami engines have very high popoff iirc.
ANy input? maybe just not enough fuel in tank to overcome gravity? THe xl1200 I have is a pain to start as well.
How many gerbils could a gerbil jammer jam if a gerbil jammer could jam gerbils?

edit-the selector valve I replaced the old one with had a slight leak between the on and reserve position, as did the old one. Guessing this indicates a bad valve?

Yes and any air leak in the system will prevent it from pulling fuel, air is much easier to move than fuel
Y'all know me, still the same O.G. but I been low-key
hated on by most these &^$$@s with no cheese, no deals and no G's, no wheels and no keys, no boats, no snowmobiles, and no skis, mad at me cause I can finally afford to provide my family with groceries

I just finished a GPr that had same issue. It would randomly loose fuel. Found the seam on the fuel filter was coming apart and drawing air. The glue used didn't bond at all to the plastic body.

Kcr, I am kind of having the same problem. I have a adventure 760 1997, if I put some fuel in carb it will fire right up and run all day but the next day I have to do the same thing or it will not start, I am thinking diaphragm but not sure any thoughts appreciated.

    Thanks

No not yet, I live in Monterey are nearest dealer told me he wouldn't even attempt it!! So not sure it being 22 years old anybody wants to do two stroke anymore. Talked to a couple other cycle shops same answer. Could probably myself dabble in a lot of things but never a carb
