96 Kawasaki ZXI 1100 unknown wire

I recently came into possession of a 96 Kawasaki ZXI1100.
Motor locked and will need to be rebuilt but I'm uncertain if it needs a complete rebuild or just the upper. Also I have a wire that I need to land but don't know where it goes. Doesn't show too be on the wiring diagram. Can someone help? Ive included a few pics. One of the wire the other of the component it leads to.

That is a ground wire to the motor.

So, where does it connect? Anywhere on the motor?

Any clean bolt, usually an intake manifold bolt.

That wire could go 1 of 2 places. If you found that wire near the battery it is probably the ground for the gauges and trim box. In that case it connects to the ground side of your battery.

    Does the trim work?

It could also be a ground to the engine as stated previously

You need to follow the wire to see where the other end goes.

    Either way it's a ground.
