Here is the first of the internal bracing and air vents, it added a lot of stiffness to the sides, which was what I was hoping for. I have cut the vents from the outside of the hood and am happy with how they look, I'll dissolve the Styrofoam that I used shortly, I just wanted to be sure the epoxy is fully cured before running some acetone through it.

I sold the first 2 I made for $100.00 plus shipping each, they were not 100% cosmetically, and the buyers knew that. I'm hoping my next ones will look better with some of the new techniques I've started using, If your interested PM me and we can work out time line and details.

Re: Carbon Fiber 650SX Hood, Questions and suggestions

I've been slowly working away at the hood, The snows starting to melt and I still have another ski to work on...so I hope i can spend a bit more time on it, I'm waiting for my hood seal for John @ Watcon. Once I get that, then i'll be able to finish it up with the channels that will hold it against the seal. I really happy with how it has stiffened with the extra air channel, I can stand on the hood, I'm only 145lbs, but it can support it no problem, Right now it's weighting in at 3.5 lbs, so i think I'll be close with my 5 lbs guess at the beginning of the project. The air venting runs from the top front of the hood, connects to the side drain, then I drilled a hole toward the back, the second layer goes from that hole back towards the front, connecting to the drain again, then across the hood, my thing was that if it's on its side, the one side can fill, but won't fill into the engine compartment, and the other side will still get air, and since I'm running it front to back i'm hoping that not to much will go in during subs and fountains. The back of the hood where the "bumpers" went will also be air intakes, running up to the top of the hood then across like the front.

For those who are still interested, sorry for the delay. I've had the ski out 1 time, (first time I've ever ridden this 650) ran pretty i put on a SBN 44 , so it needs to be tuned a bit, but it started idled and ran pretty well, anything above 3/4 throttle wasn't there. But i'm pretty sure that's in the tuning not lack of air, i had the same thing on my 550 when I switched to a SBN 44. The hood performed well as far as i could tell , Fit's pretty well, 1 side must have been "pushed" out when I did the internal air-ways. It sticks out to the side about a 1/4", but other then that it's great, as it stands right now it's 4.5 lbs,
