Can you split a 99 RFI flywheel??

If so what is the best way to do it?5C88DD2A-2C64-4B12-A26B-CDA9FB501478.jpeg

I knew you were going to ask why...

I did a bunch of research (and your reply was part of it in a different thread) I am using a 787 RFI crank and case to put together a 787 carb back up engine for my 97 GSX. I know that I have to use the RFI flywheel because the cranks are different. I just figured I could shed a touch of weight if I could remove the front part of the flywheel.

After I posted this thread I was looking deeper into it and I was guessing even if I could split it, there would not be enough structure in the center of the flywheel for strength.

That wont work as you need a "carbed" flywheel to run a carbed motor.

I used a carbed crank in RFI cases.

You have always been right so I am definitely not arguing. This is what I was basing my build off of:

Well here is the thing. I have a complete electrical system back up for my GSX so I figured I can get the engine together ad try to bench run it. If it works, great if it doesn't I have a 787 carb crank I can get rebuilt., SO, no harm no foul to try, But what I don't want to say yet is that you stand corrected. I am in no rush. Guessing I will have it done by early spring. So we will know then if it works.

You are the Super Stud of PWC and like always, thanks for all your help!!!!!!
