92 XP running out of fuel

Saturday while riding it started to die and you had to play with the throttle back and forth then it would run full tilt again then start to die so i reached down and pumped the primer a few times and it ran great again for about 10 seconds then same thing , so i just kept giving the primer a few squirts to get home , So fuel pump took a crap you think ? Only other thing that happened a few days before was i got in some muck and the pissers were squirting out black then they cleared right back up and it ran fine the rest of that day , Also this season the midrange has sucked , its been ok low and wot but in the middle it would die down which made it very hard to ride beside the Wife on her TS. Any ideas where to start first ?

Go through the fuel system completely. A lean condition can, and will end in an engine failure. ANY ski of this age needs to be gone through. Replace all lines, fuel filter, rebuild carbs, fuel pump, replace fuel select valve, etc. Use only genuine Mikuni kits, needle and seats, etc. Stick with good gas (Non ethanol) and you should be good for many years again.

Thank You John , I ordered a rebuild kit from OSD that should be here in a few days , but a few minutes ago in the garage looking at it i see a crack in the short line that connects the carbs together so i touched it and its in half , I cant believe i didn't notice it while flushing it or pulling it outta the water yesterday preparing for this storm to come this way possibly , pulled both skis and pontoon boat out back , How did that thing even run like that ? I mean the hose is broke in half but fits so perfect at the break its still hard to notice it unless you touch it. I'll put a new piece of hose on then epoxy the kill switch back in because that fell inside when i put the lanyard on to start it. Whats the best epoxy to use for something like that ?

I'm thinking 3M fast cure 5200 because i used it on the pontoons once 3 years ago and its still on there like i just did it.

I think JB Weld would last longer than 3M 5200. What ever you decide mask it off with painters tape and make it look sanitized.

Its on the inside , when you look down at the spot where you push your lanyard on it’s just an hole now , whatever epoxy the factory used it was very little , but hey it’s 26 years old now

Originally, the kill switch would have had a "nut" on the out side, connecting it to the hull.

It has probably dried out, and broken due to age....

Yes it does have a nut which i glued back on about 8 years ago and still holding and the kill button stayed put because it was glued from the inside to the hull , I just glued the nut piece back on the outside so the lanyard would attach to it again. I should just buy a whole new switch assembly because i really do hate looking down and seeing that blob of glue , I had this ski for over 13 years now and still love it , I did my first seat cover and jet pump on it , Its my Baby Jet Skis 2018 002 by Nuclearcobra, on Flickr

Re: 92 XP running out of fuel

Well i used JB Weld Quick on it so we'll see how long it last , I'm getting ready to put the boat back in and the skis and take the XP for a spin , I'm curious how its gonna run with the fuel line changed , I'm thinking that's why the mid range sucked so bad and it wouldn't cruise unless you were going really slow or wide open. Over the winter I'm going to change all the lines on that and the TS.
