Bonehead Move - Waveraider battery installed backwards

So I pulled my ski (1994 Waveraider 701 62t) out of storage the other weekend and threw my charged battery in, hit the start button.. nothing.

Checked the fuse and noticed it was blow, I didnt have a spare fuse that size so I stupidly used a very thin gauge piece of wire to jump the fuse holder. Well it instantly got hot and melted, I noticed a bit of smoke coming out of the elec. box. I then noticed I had hooked up the battery backwards.

We were heading to the beach that day so I simply disconnected the battery and parked it.

Im going to go check things out on it tonight and do some tests to see what I may have wrecked. Doing some research I've found that the rectifier may be damaged from my error. Any other items I should check?

    Appreciate the help.

    Jon.

So checked resistance on the regulator and they were all out of spec. All wires looked fine and not melted. Jumped the starter solenoid and it turned over so thats a check.

I think I will be going ahead and ordering a rectifier.

The bonehead move was connecting the battery backwards. But the dumb move was jumping the fuse with a piece of wire that supports more current than the fuse before figuring out why the fuse melted....

I installed the battery backwards once and immediately noticed. Switched it around, replaced the fuse with another 10A, and it runs fine.

You're on the right track checking each item per the service manual spec. I don't know the extent of what may have been fried. Looking at the wiring diagram it seems like it would likely be just the rectifier since that is connected after the fuse.
