    951 starter

Hi, got one I can't figure out. Recently my starter Bendix went out and damaged the starter on a LRV carb model.
I removed front cover and flywheel and replaced the Bendix and starter and all is good. Now for some reason the battery will not
stay charged. I checked to make sure the magneto is charging while running and it is, around 13.5-14.0 volts. Can a starter drain
a battery overnight? Any thoughts. Thank You.

Still have not found a solution yet. Ordered and installed the external voltage reg/rect from OSD with a known good battery, 24hrs later

the battery is dead. I forgot to mention in my first post, along with the starter swap I also swapped out the mag cup as it had a

little damage. When i install a charged battery I get an ark so I know something is pulling current but I don't know what.

Has anyone ever installed a battery disconnect switch on a pwc?

Battery shut off switch would stop the drain.

Do you leave your DESS key installed overnight? Tried unplugging the DESS post to see if maybe the magnetic reed switch is stuck closed?

Whatever is killing a new battery overnight has a decent current draw and is definitely not normal. My guess is that the computer is remaining on somehow and draining juice. Do you know how to measure amperage draw with a multi-meter or amp-clamp?

Definitely try removing the VTS out of the equation by disconnecting it too (if equipped).

What about your start/stop button? Do you get a distinctive click when you press it? No click means the switch has failed and it may be "waking" the computer.

Thanks for the fast help. What should normal omhs be on the yellow wires. It is charging and it is not blowing fuse.

I don't leave dess key in overnight. This ski does not have vts. I do hear the solenoid click.

Which solenoid are you talking about? The main starter solenoid? And what are you doing to get it to click? Did you disconnect the starter cable on the starter just to see if the solenoid may somehow be making a connection when it shouldn't be?
