1991 Sea Doo SP 覧WEAK SPARK

Thanks for any help. I have a 1991 Sea Doo SP (yellow motor). I got this ski a few weeks ago and it was like a time capsule. It is in immaculate shape!! It was last run in 2000 so I did the proper maintenance and fired it up. It was even running good out of water on ****ty gas! I let it sit for a few weeks and rebuilt the carb today. Hooked up a new battery and it cranked great, but would not fire. First off I want to say that my buddy and I accidentally hooked the positive wire to the negative terminal. I know, rookie move. After that I made sure I had fuel, which I had plenty. I then got the spark tester out and it barely glowed on both wires. Ran over to my JS 440 and the tester shined like the sun. So I know the tester is good. This baby won稚 fire (even on the juice). So any idea as to what it may be? Where should I start? Again I appreciate you guys!

Open the electrical box and check for a blown fuse on the mpem. If you're lucky a new fuse will get it going. If not, you will need an mpem.

Fuses were fine....When you say mpem, do you mean rectifier? Doesn’t have a normal “CDI box” like my later XP’s...???? Please help!

Cancel that. I replaced rectifier and the safety switch...turns out I was a simple fix with the safety switch. Thank you for your help!!

Yes! No if you only had the magic formula to get the stinking pump off! Lol

Re: 1991 Sea Doo SP 覧WEAK SPARK

Turns out the weak spark was the rev limiter. When I unplugged the red and the black wire with brown still grounded I had spark. No spark when plugged in. Found a new/old stock on in MI and will post when installed.
