Got to do the carb balance mod to get the 1200 to run right. If not they don't have the bottom end a 1100 does. The venture runs great bone stock.

On the flip side, if the 800 is mint, an 1100 triple will bolt in its place when it blows up.
    I like your thinking

So I bought the XLT800 for $2800 from the original owner with only 82 hours and a super nice trailer. I did not think it was a bad deal given it is peak summertime. The only bad thing I saw on the powervalve motors is you may need to add the clips for protection. Is there anything else that is bad? I thought Yamaha made good reliable skis?

Ive had a bone stock GP1200 (same engine) and didnt do the carb balance mod, and it ran just fine. And doing the mod does nothing to the bottom end of an engine.

So because one mod will help with longevity you assume Yamaha doesn't make good reliable ski's already? Talk about jumping to conclusions!

Get those clips on ASAP, and replace the oil injection lines. They shrink, and pull off. The waveeater clips will help, but I’ve seen the constant banging of them closing actually deforms the aluminum stop in the cylinder, letting them get slowly eaten by the pistons.

If you ever get a chance to ride a 65u that has had the carb rack properly tuned you'll throw rocks at yours.

The Bottom end I was referring to is when you first take off or hole shot.
