Re: Burning up pumps left and right.....

    Ok guys found my issue.....

Took the drive shaft to a machine shop,

The deflection was .020 to .050......

On the rear half it was .020-.025

The front half was .030-.050.... and center where told to check was the average of both halves.....

The machinist about **** his pants when I told him the allowable tolerance for deflection...

I feel like your driveshaft needs to become an exhibit at the "Hall of F'd up things you find on vehicles." I picture it being bronzed and ending up in a Farmer's Insurance commercial where the spokesman says we know how to cover things, because we've seen a few things.

I'm glad you have finally found your white whale, Capt Ahab! So illusive, yet hiding in plain sight!

So tell me, how many seconds passed before you were already logging onto Ebay or Craigslist hunting down a good driveshaft?

Just boughta ski, runs great, beautiful ski, great price. The thru hull drive bearing/seal is leaking. Put an 1100 gph auto bilge in it , But the engine will have to be pulled. It is what it is, and the first ride after the ski is back together, priceless, until next week when your starter goes out and your yanking the exhaust off . LOL.

edit: prime reason to use the best parts out there.

    So......

Went to the lake today with the new seals and drive shaft installed. Put 2.2 on the Hobbs and everything seems ok....

Will be pulling the pump tomorrow just to look at the oil and I am praying to god that it is not milky or filled with shavings of something

Does the engine/driveline now feel smoother with the new drive shaft? I would imagine that it would be noticeable difference in the way the ski accelerates. Btw, did you measure the runout before installing it?

Everything does feels smoother and I know I am being sensitive cause everything was keeping my attention. Some sounds have me worried but at idle everyone says all they do is rattle so i think I am being paranoid.... pump sounded a little different when I would pop out of the water..... we will see what the wear ring says tomorrow.

As for runout the machinist said it was on point and looked really good. He didnít give me numbers.....

Also I do know there are two fins on the brass pump that need to be smoothed out... what is the best way to go about this?

    Metal file? Dremel?

I have never been much for working metal

Use whatever takes away the least amount of material whilst blending any deep, jagged gouges smooth. I don't recommend using a Dremel unless you have a lot of practice shaping metal with them.
