    Buy Used or New SuperJet?

    I have a 1990 that is in the shop and I may look to buy another ski depending on the cost of repairs. I'll plan to ride it 30-40 hours a season. The only used one by me currently for sale is a '05 that looks to be in ok shape for $3,400. What would you do?

    Except for colors, isn't the 2005 model exactly the same as the 2018 model? /s

    It seems that Yamaha is very slow to improve the SJ. There aren't many differences between that used one and a new one other than condition/hours. The new one even comes with zero warranty! If the 05 is in good condition I would jump on that one. I prefer the square nose handling but I guess that's not an option in this case.

    08 and up are different hulls, intake tract is completely different, and I believe pump is set back. There may be other differences, too.

    Yes, 2" shorter Handlepole, 2" setback, 2" longer hull plus built-in front sponsons. A superior set-up to the pre 2008 SuperJets.

    I'd disagree. The steering sucks on the '08+ unless you make some changes. And even though they have the built in sponsons, they are very squirrelly. I'd say for a rec rider/wave chaser the pre-08 is a better option.

    You can make a new bracket and run the older rn steering cable and get the extra throw, but the older hull is more playful. The new body is supposedly more race oriented, if you will.

    My BIL has a "new" SJ hull. It is all stock, so that may be some of the difference, but I much prefer riding my 04 hull to his '12 hull. My hull seems easier to toss around and more playful.
