1000 triple, center cylinder doing all the work.

So I'm defeated. I have tried and tried and can't seem to fix my engine. My dad and I took two of my skis out yesterday and the cooling hose on the tsr 1000 that goes into the water filter blew off at the threw-hull fitting. It sprayed so much water into the intake that when I got my ski back it was only running on the mag cylinder. I got the ski home and popped off the PTO head to find a white milky paste all over everything. I cleaned this cylinder and the center cylinder and it started running on the center and pto cylinders, the mag wasn't doing anything. I figured with it running I can at least start fogging it. After doing this the mag started firing again.

From school (automotive) I remembered a cylinder balance test. Get the engine running and one by one pull and replace the spark plug boots. The cylinder that drops the most rpm is the strongest. Well, thats my center cylinder. The pto drops a tiny bit, but it's must noticable when you plug it back in. It surges for a split second. The mag doesn't do anything. But its getting warm so I know it's firing. The center how ever damn near kills the engine when I pull it. Compression is (pto-center-mag): 140,155,135. I understand this is not "good" but it should still run fine. Any suggestions I haven't thought of? If I pull all the plugs and just use the mag cylinder, I can get it to run on just that cylinder. As soon as the others are introduced it dies..

Edit: warm compression test reveals all cylinders at 125 even. I forgot to mention the original numbers where from before I cleaned the cylinders which makes sense.

Pulling motor. I cleaned a completely separate set of carbs and got the mag cylinder firing, it's actually the strongest now. The PTO died now though.. thinking I have sludge build up in the crank case so I'm pulling to clean it out. Needed it anyway with the low compression over all.

What do the spark plugs look like?

I highly recommend you remove that water filter contraption and bypass it with a 1/2" fitting. I had a heck of a time figuring out a cooling issue until I realized that stupid filter was clogged.

Re: 1000 triple, center cylinder doing all the work.

I've taken three sets of plugs, all from running engines and still nothing. I also removed and cleaned the tips with carb spray every once in a while while testing. I can check the filter when I get home but I never saw the streem stop from the pisser until the hose blew off. Ether way, I'm still likely to rebuild it just due to it being a tired motor. Thanks for the help though, I'm definitely going to investigate more now.

Make sure you're running the correct spark plugs. The previous owner of my ski used NGK BR9ES and I always assumed they were the correct plugs for this ski. After some weird running issues I did some investigating and found out BR9ES's are not the correct plugs after all. NGK recommends BR9EYA for a TS Daytona 1000. After installing the correct plugs, my strange running issues went away.

Re: 1000 triple, center cylinder doing all the work.

Have always ran br9eyas. They have the distinguishable green lettering on them. All three cylinders have spark, I verified this and also when I removed the carburetors, I used two more plugs to ground the other two plug wires and left one plug wire on the mag cylinder. Then I dumped raw fuel into the intake manifold on that cylinder and it popped off. I did the same on the center and pto leaving the other cylinders unplugged but grounded. They all popped off. But for some reason as soon as I throw a set of carbs on it it won't run on all three. I still think that there is fuel "gel" in the crankcase fr the water so I'm just going to clean it out, put new pistons and rings in it, and order up some carb kits. This way I can start to eliminate some questions.
