    HELP PLEASE! 1998 XL1200 WaveRunner won’t idle

Hello everyone, I am new to the PWC world and recently purchased 2 very used jet skis. One is a 2001 sea-doo GTX and the other is a 1998 yamaha waverrunner XL 1200. Both sat for a while. Both run great. They both accelerate and go very, very fast with no acceleration issues at all. BUT they will not sit at idle. As soon as I let off the throttle they slowly die within 10-15 seconds. I also have to throttle them to get them to start. Could anyone help me out? I changed the spark plugs, same problem.

I know this sounds silly but i have to ask.... did you try turning up the idle via the idle screws? I mean, you aren't fixing the issue by turning them up forever until it "idles". BUT check and make sure the screws aren't backed off completely from the blade. If they are, just turn the screw in until the screw contacts the blade, then give it one more full 360 degree turn.

Try what dorny has to say and then Clean internal carb fuel filters on seadoo and any crud that you see from tank pick up tube to carbs.

At minimum the carbs need cleaned. I work on skis all the time where owner says "other than that it runs great". Then I take it myself and figure out hey have no idea what it's actually supposed to run like. The latest was a GTX Limited with a carbed 951. Supposedly it ran real good on top end but everything under wide open it just fell on it's face and died. Customer stated around 35mph wide open.............obviously not running right as that's a 55mph machine. After rehabbing the fuel system, resealing the leaky/loose exhaust pipe, and trueing up the beat impeller, it did run good.
