    550SX drive train to JS?

Hey guys, I just picked up two 550's ones a 88 and ones a 93, the engine on the 88 has a lose top end and is basically stock, but it has a killer paint job,

Was wondering if I could convert the pump, drive shaft and engine from the 93 to the 88 with out much issue?

Yea you can certainly do it. I ran a SX pump and driveshaft in my first 550/750 which was an 85 hull. You'll need a bulkhead mount from Rhaas. Robin's parts are top notch and I have never had an issue with this piece.

Re: 550SX drive train to JS?

You could if you made a bulkhead conversion plate to hold the JS driveshaft bearing housing.

Oops - edit...... I am not positive the 550js driveshaft will fit through the hulls driveshaft tube.

Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

is the bolt hole spacing diffrent between the sx and js bearing housing? or would it be more like a spacer?

Re: 550SX drive train to JS?

Definitely different. Better to just buy SX parts for the other ski and run sx drivelines in both.

Re: 550SX drive train to JS?

putting the js driveline in the sx hull would be stepping down in performance as well as reliability. the 550sx pump has better designed impeller shaft with sealed bearings where the js550 pump has grease. and the driveshaft also uses sealed bearings on the sx and its a full floating bearing plus its lighter.

Re: 550SX drive train to JS?

Yea we are saying it's better to buy a second set of SX stuff. Keep your eyes open and you can get the parts reasonably priced.

JS parts in a SX requires way more time and effort than it's worth. At the very least it requires a custom adaptor plate nobody currently makes. As BLRider indicated, the driveshaft might not even fit thru the tube. Better to just buy the right parts. In fact, if it was me, I'd keep the original parts to the 93 and buy the second set for the 88. Skis always run best with less vibration with all their original parts. As soon as you start swapping you really have to be particular about aligning things to make sure you don't have more vibration and end up with a bucket of bolts. Thankfully the SX driveline is way way easier than the JS in that regard, but still.
