    717 ring gap question

    I have a wsm platinum kit.piston spec max is 18

    I have 22 to 23 is the going to be an issue.

    I don't think so but I thought I would ask.

    That is a lot.....

    What is your piston to cylinder wall clearance? I am guessing you are out of spec.

    With that much ring end gap you will get a lot of blow by.

    I will check piston to wall.
    I have read that race ski's they gap them up to 54 thousandths.

    Can the pistons be knurled. I just don't want to buy jugs it ran fine before .it ingested water 40 hours on a new engine.when I took apart everything looked new.

    Well, its not the end of the world. Could be the rings worn out too. We cant say for sure without some measurements.

    The piston is 6 thousandths at lowest and 8,000 at the highest point

    If you are saying that you have a maximum of 8 thou clearance, I wouldn't be scared to run it. I've run looser before with no issues.
