What carbs and ignition mods for 1100 SXR?

Doing an 1100 swap and wanting to know what carbs folks are running in unported 1100's? For now I'm thinking about running a TBM head, VForce reed cages and maybe an aftermarket CDI if I can get one. I'd like to see about 65mph. What carbs should I be looking into?

A solid set up for you would be 44's, carbon tech reeds on the stock cages, any good head with your squish clearance set up properly (i prefer the ada girdled set up as i had them make custom domes based on our design), and stock ignition with the timing advance plate. An honest 65 out of a stock hull is a lot to ask, dont focus on the #, build a solid boat and rip it!!! Im sure assholes will argue about this, but i have built enough of these to throw my opinion out there to try and help out someone with an honest question. Please feel free to email me with any questions or help you need getting parts.

Sweet. So what is the best manifold option? I am thinking the stock 900 manifold with a speed plate would be best when running 44's. The Dasa and Kommander and manifolds are massive and I am concerned with the dead volume that would exist between the carbs and reed cages in the plenums. If I could find two R&D 750 manifolds to cut up, I'd go that route. Does manifold porting offer any sort of benefit? Does case porting lend itself to smoother power or make the motor more of a handful?

You can build a really nice 'limited' 1100 set up that will feel awesome, but you will never hit 65mph. Closer to 60-62.

I'd be happy with that. What would you recommend for carbs and other mods?

If you are looking to build a nice reliable, easy to tune 1100, I personally like the mikuni 46mm carbs. They are easy to tune, make great power (90% of what you would get if you went to full Dasas or Novis) and you have room to grow if you decide you want to go bigger on the motor in the future. The power different between 46s and 44s isn’t that much, bu the down the line advantages are worth it in my opinion.

Also, the DASA manifolds with the speed plates work great, especially when mated to a nice set of carbs. Plus, the convienince of the speed plate is worth it’s weight in gold.

Having said all of this........ if you’re really only building a play ski and have no aspirations for racing, the non CV stock carbs can be made to work extremely well. No, they don’t make as much power as the aftermarket mikunis, but when set up right, they hit good, tune extremely easy and are way better with fuel mileage. Time Judge has built many SXR1100s that run 60mph with stock carbs that will idle from here to Texas and not load up. With the 1100, it’s as much set up with the rest of the ski as it is just carbs. Set up the pipe right, add some compression and timing, and most importantly, prop it right, and you would be shocked how well the stock non cv carbs can work.

    Hope this helps,
    Scott

Ran the stock non CV carbs all last year and they worked great. Switching to 46’s this year so I’ll see how much performance gain there is. Follow TJ and Scottie’s advice and you can go wrong.
