    Wave Jammer fuel tank removal

I just picked up an old wave Jammer that was full of bad fuel. I want to remove the tank and steam clean it but seem to be having trouble. I removed the three mounting bolts and the fill tube but no matter which way I go , the tank will not fit to be removed. Does anyone have any tips? I hope the motor doesn't need to come out pull the tank.

It has been a while since I took the tank out with the 500 engine in there. You might need to loosen or remove the engine mounting bolts to gain a bit more wiggle room.

With the 650 swap the engine is so much smaller envelope wise the tank comes in and out like a dream. I highly recommend the swap, easy tank removal is one nice extra benefit. Even with the oem 650 muffler.

thanks vetteman. I was able to remove the tank. Was reading about your the 650 swap. what is the exact ski I need to look for to do the swap. Does it have to be a 650 lx waverunner or will any 650 waverunner engine work

You will need the bed plates and midshaft from the 650lx, but you can use any 650,701, or 760 in it with those lx parts. I wouldn't recommend anything over a 650 though because that pump won't handle any more.

Yea in particular I got a '92 LX. You want to make sure it's the LX that has the 650 engine but 500 pump. They basically took a WR500 hull and adapted the bed plates and midshaft to make the 650 fit. So be sure to grab both.

Also I would highly recommend a good intake grate. Either a jet dynamics (if they have any) or some sort of custom scoop mod. The stock pump is pretty bad. You need to shim that impeller super tight and make sure it can get as much water as it can. Once you do that you can rail turns with the ski leaned over bars to the water.

One project I am looking into this winter is seeing how difficult it is to swap over to a FX1 pump. If the pilots and bolt circles match up it might be a pretty straight forward swap. Then impellers will be plentiful and I can port my cylinder and put on my Nynja pipe!

It has to be from a waverunner LX which has the 500 pump. They made the LX for a bunch of years and at some point swapped over to a 144mm pump. At least in 92 they were still using the 500 pump, not sure about 93 onwards. Even broader than that, there were a bunch of waverunner models with 650s. Make sure the seller knows what year and model ski the bed plates came from.
