    Re: Purchase with no title....

I live in Michigan. I bought a old Yamaha Superjet from the original owner, all they had was the registration for it. Went to S.O.S. with signed bill of sale and signed registration and they would not do anything for me without a title because everything with a fixed engine must have a title. So I tried doing a power of attorney ( these people wouldn't go get a new title for me). That did not work. So my fourth time waiting in line at the secretary of state, I finally got a halfway decent guy. He told me they are not aloud to do this very often, but they can call Lansing (state capitol) and do a back ground check using the VIN number. As long as it comes back clean in one hour, they will give you a brand new title. Ticks a guy off that they won't do this with ease.

As long as the ski isn't stolen, you should be fine. But if it is stolen, I hope you drown.

    Re: Purchase with no title....

Not trying to resurrect an old thread, but wanted to update this. I just registered a PWC in Georgia that I do not have the title to but have the bill of sale and previous registration. I put in my info paid my $35 and immediately received my temporary tag number.
Neither the bill of sale or previous registration is required but if you don't have them you have to fill out an affidavit online and sign it. Oh, and you need to upload these docs online or snail mail the things I just listed...Or email (I just uploaded them).
Anyways, I hope this helps some people and encourages others to not be so afraid of the "no title" words in a vehicle description when looking at buying them.
Only drawback? Depending on your state, you probably will only be allowed to operated your watercraft in your state for 90 days before you have to register it in the state you live. So, you sacrifice $35 to do this "work around". As long as your vessel is not stolen, you should be good to go.
