88 650sx carb upgrade to CDK2 is it bolt on??

Hi All. I have an 88 650sx stock motor with the small 28mm carb. Was wondering if the 91+ CDK II 38 would bolt right up to the stock manifold (stud center to center the same)?

I dont mind having to do some dremmel work to open the bore up a bit on the manifold.

Also if anyone has a line on a clean CDK 2 38mm for a reasonable price let me know!

Yes, bolts on, dremmel work recommended. Flame arrestor will fit, but again dremmel will come in handy. Or get carb with F/A (off the top of my head the long carb bolts may also need swapping).

There are 38mm and 40mm CDK2's, usually the 40mm option came on 750's and will require a slight re-jet for the 650 to avoid lean.

best bet is to get a 750 or later grey 650 manifold to get the performance gain, yes, it will bolt up ,you will need to cut the 650 manifold 28 to suit the 40mm carb throttle plate swing ,you will also need the throttle cable and bracket from a 750 sx or later 650. re jetting wont be needed ,a 1/4 turn in from stock on the low needle will get you in the ball park.

Other than ebay, are there any other good spots to look for the bigger carbs?

Also if i get a 38mm CDK2 off some other rig that obviously would come with different jetting. Where should i start as far as main jet, slow jet, high and low needles and popoff?

As per '91 650sx manual... Pilot 75, main 140, Low 1-1/4, High 5/8, float arm 1.5mm +/- 0.5mm, they don't specify pop-off, probably 25-35PSI depending, better that it pops and holds... But I'll let more experienced tuners comment.
