#1 cyl is very lean for sure... Either air leak, carb carb issue. #2 & 3 look lean as well.

Lean = Heat, which = expansion.

What clearance did you set the cyls up at? Who chamfered the ports?

What do you see John? Engine was not assembled by me. I thought the fuel wash looked great for a Kawi triple. I've never seen a lean condition grab rings at the exhaust port. Also did you see the scuffing on the intake side of that one piston in the exact shape of the boost port?

Re: Pro mechanics only, need opinions

All of the 900/1100s that I repair , and I've fixed a bunch , all come in with similar issues , usually the rear hole tho , always have cylinder base gasket leaks on exhaust side for the air leak and the rear carb fuel pumpa is kaput , sometimes takes a couple of sets of carbs to get one good set , typical of kehins , and you can't get OE pump sections , so your stuck , check carb float bowl black diaphragms , they are probably hard as a rock on lean seize cylinder . These skis never come in needing just a spring tune or carb work , always base gasket air leaks before explosion , had one guy think he had a four stroke , so he went to Walmart and got quicksilver four stroke outboard oil , put it in his tank , and windowed the cases , little viscosity problem eh? Another guy took off oil injection , put on blowsion filters , primer kit ,mixed 40 to 1 , and shredded two holes . Or they come in with waterlogged e boxes backfiring , and the carbs were done what's wrong they say , basic stuff , make sure when you strip this one to the crank you inspect crank real closely , also clean entire pipe of all debris , I fix a bunch of these if customer can afford , if not we scrap em . On the one that had oil injection removed , engine was rebuilt , base gasket sealed , carbs redone , two sets to make one , oil injection put back on ,still runs good .also check fuel supply , sometimes I found debris in tank that plugged filter screens in tank , like a sea doo with the green slime in the fuel selector valve trick , max , if you ever watched Get Smart

I have seen it plenty... Lean condition causes detonation to eat exhaust side of piston thus ring is exposed and catches on exhaust port.

Right, except look closely at #3. Exact same ring snagging pattern with no sign of a lean burn or deto or excessive heat. Also the inside of the pistons show no sign of excessive heat. And what do you guys think of the cylinder ridge? How many years does it take to ridge one like this? Ive seen it on 175 hour 951's and 150,000 mile small block chevys.
