    VX110 Oil Tank Bracket Mod

Any one done something to this bracket that would allow the head to come off without removing the tank?

It looks to me that if the threaded studs that come out of bracket were cut off, a hole drilled, the bracket could be through bolted on.

This seems to allow the head to be removed without the tank coming off, which would make it much easier to pop head off without pulling motor?

    Thoughts?

Pull motor & do it right. Pull head in hull is a recipe for disaster.

Dont drill anything.... that is considered hack in my book.

I have the motor out now and am doing it, just wondering if anyone has done this?

I would think the rental guys would have come up with something to save time of engine pull for head work.

I may buy a used bracket and see if it is even doable.

I agree its a stupid setup.

Make sure to pull the cooler apart to clean the screen in the bottom,no need to remove the side covers they are just cooler jackets.

    Will do, thanks for tip!

You see my post about dropping the valve buckets?

Guess I will need to put back together when I'm done on bench, check clearances and dissassemble cams again to move/replace shims?

I did find a bracket on ebay for $14 so I may monkey with it this winter.

Yeah The first one I did I cussed like crazy on how stupid the were built to try & disassemble in the hull. But then found out how easy the are to remove & work on once removed.

I have removed/installed so many now I could do it blind folded, that includes ski & jet boats. These motors dont last for chit in a jet boat & we get a LOT of them at the shop & owners spend big $$$ to keep them going.

More tips...make sure to look at the oil pumps, there is another screen in there that will trap debris before it gets to the pumps....if you find a bunch of metal its a sign of bearings coming apart....not good.

the stud come right out of the bracket with a little heat and a good stud remover or vise grip then when you install studs back put the nut on the stud with a little bit of loctite first then install stud and nut on the bracket with a little oil or grease on thread, next time the stud will come right out with the nut.
