    Case sealant

    Totally forgot to order some when i placed order with SBT. What can i get from local auto parts store that will work? I have Autozone, parts plus and advance auto local to me.

              NO! This is the most horrible crap there is. The ONLY case sealant you should be using is a thin silicone-based sealant. I use Threebond 1211. (Threebond also makes similar versions , like the recommended Yamabond 4, but this version dries quicker than the 1211)

              Rotax must have had some brain-dead engineers when they specified Loctite 518 back in the day. They finally wised up and went to a silicone sealant for cases in 2001. One of the best reasons to ONLY use silicone these days is because you never know the history of an engine you are working on. If it ever has used silicone, then Loctite 518 will NEVER set properly on those case halves again.

              A lot of "leaky inner seals" are misdiagnosed. What is happening is the 518 breaks down and the oil is leaking at the case halves.
