    Js550 to 750 electrical question

So I finally got a 750 to swap into the 'ol js550 and I have a quick question.
I did some research about the swap prior to buying the 750 engine and from what I read on the forums, people recommend using the stock js550 electronics with a 650 regulator.
Just double checking to make sure this is correct.

A lot of build threads I am seeing that have (had) wiring diagrams for this swap are no longer available due to photobucket

On a side note I am starting to take pictures of the progress, and will try to make a thread once its all finished since nobody likes incomplete js550 builds. I have the ski almost stripped of paint and have the conversion brackets on the way.

Re: Js550 to 750 electrical question

some people have run the 650 electronics however the 750 electronics are much better. the only difference is not being able adjust your timing by rotating the stator which is the only real advantage to the 650 electronics and the smaller ebox. the 750 eboxs work with making a bracket work to bolt it to the stock 550 ebox location. the 750 cases have to be machined, drilled and tapped for a 650 stator to work. i recently put a dual carbed small pin out of a ssxi and used the stock ebox from the xi. modified the stock mounting bracket to work with the stock 550 ebox mount.

If you have a 750 ss xi ebox. I bolted the cover directly to the 550 Ebox location. I made a seal for all the Mounting holes to hopefully prevent it from leaking (time will tell). It was a little PITA but learned next time should be easier. Firmly mounted and looks clean. IMG_3663.JPG

did you drill holes in the back of the ebox and bolt the back cover to the 550 ebox mount? it does look clean but how do you get it apart if you have to work on it? i wanted to mount mine horizontally like you did but im running the rhaas conversion plate with the stock 750 engine coupler so the engine is setting farther back than with the 550 coupler. im also running a js550 pump with the larget bulkier bulkhead bearing.

due to lack of room i ended up mounting mine vertically but had to cut into the hood liner to get the hood to go down. i also bought the rhaas small battery plate and a smaller battery to give more room. with the ssxi box i was able to use a plug off the ssxi and use that access to power my bilge pump with a factory water sealed plug for easy removal and cleanliness. also used a plug for the start stop switch from the ssxi.

Re: Js550 to 750 electrical question

Drilled holes in the cover. I had to have the top box bolts in their holes before mounting the plate. My hull is an Sx with a JRE plate. I made a conversion plug for my Start Stop so I didn't hve to cut anything. I should have wires my bilge power to my Ebox power stud but didn't. Very tight but I can still unclip and unplug my pump from the westcoast bracket and waterproof connectors.

Re: Js550 to 750 electrical question

Yes I have all the 750 electronics but I would like to use them on another project

This is why I am wondering if the js550 electronics with a 650 regulator will work.
Edit: now I am reading that the 750 regulator can be put in the js550 ebox to make it run the 750 engine.

Re: Js550 to 750 electrical question

ohh i see, i preferred modifying the stock bracket over drilling holes in the cover. i can also remove my ebox without first taking it apart in the ski which seems like it would be tough with the engine in. mine is pretty crammed but still pretty easy to work on.

This could be interesting, post up some info on this if you can.
Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.
